Rebelution Check Received, Over $10,000 Donated!!!

Well, as the title says, I received the $1,000 check from Alex and Brett Harris today! Adding that to the extra thousand dollars we have received, we have over $10,000, which is $2,000 over our goal! I'm just... nearly speechless! The Lord has been so good to us throughout the entire process, I credit him with the success in this project.

In case you are wondering what will be done with the "extra" $2,000, I will be giving it all to Mr. Palmer and BGR. Here is a quote from Mr. Palmer from an e-mail he sent to me recently:

"Our estimation is about USD $8,000 per well. In actuality, some wells will cost more and some less; the $8,000 is just an average figure. For instance, if a well goes extra deep (due to water table depth in the drilling area), it might cost more than $10,000+. If the drillers hit a good area (shallow water table), the individual well might only cost 6 to 7 thousand. . . . No matter how much money DFaD sends to BGR for water in DarFur, 100% will be used for wells.…

A Visit to Parkview Montessori Magnet School

Well, I thought I had posted this yesterday, but apparently not... Sorry! So, this blog entry is actually two days late, and for that I apologize.

Back in the beginning of the week, Mrs. Peggy Smith, who is the 7th and 8th grade teacher at Parkview Montessori Magnet School here in Jackson sent me a message via Facebook asking me if I would like to come visit her class of 30 or so students and tell them about Dollar for a Drink. Of course, I was very excited about this opportunity, and I accepted. It actually worked out very well, for that was the day that I had to go in to Union for my OT final exam (which went well, by the way).

Mrs. Stookey, a woman from my church whose daughter goes to Parkview, offered to give me a drive to the school from Union. Again, I accepted. (Now that I have finally gotten my drivers ed. booklet, perhaps I can finally start learning how to drive) Anyway, I got to the school around 12:15.

In my opinion, I feel that the time went very well. I wasn't too…

GOAL REACHED!!!

This actually happened a few days ago, but we have now reached the Dollar for a Drink goal of $8,000! The Lord has been so good to me throughout this endeavor, and money is still coming in. I would like to thank all of you who helped out in this project, it would not have been possible without you all!

I am planning on altering the front page once I get more info on where the well is going in and other such info. It's been an exciting adventure, thanks again! :D

Northbrook Church Speech, Really Really Almost There! ($150 left!)

Today I made a speech at my home church, Northbrook, on DfaD. I had also made some bulletin inserts earlier on in the week as well, so those were in the programs. The speech went very well I think, and I got some great feedback and encouragement afterwards. I was surprised how few times I said "um" and how little my legs shook. I guess that the Lord was just watching over me! :)

My dad was actually preaching that day about Christmas, and I played the promotional video for the Advent Conspiracy prior to my speech, which fit perfectly with what the both of us were going to talk about.

One of the leaders of the church, Mr. Maxwell, had a basket set up in the back where people could put in donations. All told, we raised $380 at church this morning! Along with some more online donations, this means that we just have $150 left to raise (which should be a piece of cake) before Christmas!!! The Lord is indeed awesome!

Union Promotional Event, Almost There!

To begin with, this blog entry is a day late. The events I will be describing (Until I say otherwise) will have happened yesterday.

First of all, Joshua Hays, Rebecca Poe (Joshua's Fiance), Matt Elia and I had a promotional event yesterday in Union's SUB building (Student Union Building, it's where the cafeteria is). The basic plan was this: Joshua had gone out and bought a rather large amount of plastic bathroom cups, and we used these cups as an illustration of one of our statistics: Every 15 seconds a child dies of a water-borne disease. To represent this stat, we took turns placing cups along the wall all the way down the hallway every 15 seconds; each cup to represent a death. We went from a little before ten o'clock to a little after one o'clock. By the end, it was really quite sobering. We also had some papers laid along the hall informing others of what we were doing, and Matt had also printed out a bunch of flyers to hand to people as they were passing. Seeing as we were…

Over $5,000 Received!!!

As you can probably guess from the title, DfaD has now taken in a little over 5,000 dollars! Praise the Lord! :D It really has been amazing to see him bring me (and everyone else) to this. If you would have asked me earlier this year if I thought I would start a non-profit and raise over $5,000 in two months, I would most likely have said "Nope!". Heh, but the Lord thought otherwise, didn't he? : )

Well, thanks to all of you who have helped my thus far! You have truly been a blessing and an encouragement to me (not to mention the people of Sudan!)
