BGR Blog post, Going on TV, and Meeting with Mike Sparks of the FCA

Hello all! Here is the news for the day:

- Yesterday Mr. Mark Kelly from BGR wrote a blog entry in the BGR blog about DfaD. You can find the blog entry here. Thanks so much Mr. Kelly!

- This afternoon a man who works at Union by the name of Steve Beverly asked me if I would be able to do a (live) TV interview for a new show of theirs at the Union studio. I am not sure what the show is called, but they will be doing some coverage on various charities/non-profits, and he thought that my new project would fit perfectly. The interview would be for about five minutes, and they would ask me some questions on what the project is, how I came up with it, what my hopes are for it, etc. Obviously, I was very excited and thankful that he would consider me! Sheesh... live TV! Needless to say, I am a wee bit nervous, but not that bad. :P The interview will be on the 11th (of November) at 12:15 on channel 6 for those in the Jackson area. Thanks for this opportunity Mr. Beverly! (Also, please pray…

Jackson Sun Article, and Over $1,000 Donated!

Hello everyone! (however many of you read the blog) I'm sorry that I haven't written in the blog recently, not too much has been happening. The past week or two has sortof been an "in-between" or "waiting" phase of sorts. However, several things have happened recently, of which I will now blog about.

First of all, the Jackson Sun article was finally published! All that I have to say is that timing is of the Lord. : ) Here is a link to the article: Click! I am very pleased with how it turned out, and by the fact that they put in my quote that the Lord is the "Executive Advisor" of the program! If anything else, I am happy that I was able to be a witness to the Lord. :D I would also like to take a moment and thank those who worked with the Jackson Sun to make this possible. A special thanks goes to Tracie Simer, the writer of the article.

Secondly, WE HAVE NOW RAISED OVER $1,000!!! Yeah! God is so good! :D

And finally, I met with Mr. Tim Ellsworth (I hope that I am spelling that…

Union DfaD Event Meeting

There was one very important happening today on the DfaD schedule, and that was the Union event night! This was an opportunity for us (Joshua Hays, Matt Elia, and myself) to share a bit more about the organization and to get some discussion going among the students. There were about nine or so students who were really interested that showed up, including Joshua and Matt. While this number may seem small, it was very large to me. I found it so very encouraging to see any amount of people really interested in what I was doing. I feel that my speech time went well (I presented further what the DfaD project was and how we are doing what we are doing). We then had the discussion and question time, and that went well too. The main question that we were addressing was, "how do we get others to see beyond themselves and to actually see the need and to have a real desire to give and help?" One of the big answers was to present a really good video documentary about the situation in Sudan, which…

Cardinal and Creme Article Published, Union Posters Up

Okay... several things to note of today. :)

The first of which is that the article for the Cardinal and Creme newspaper was published today. I am very excited about this, and I hope that this will really help to get the message out to the campus. Also, I would like to extend a special thank you to Kelsey Nagy, who was the reporter who wrote the article; and Beth Spain, who was the photographer. The both of you were so nice and helpful, and I thank you for the time that you both took to help the promotion of the project! (even if you did get a little bit wet, Beth :) )

The second item of interest is that Matt Elia, myself, Joshua Hays, and Rebecca Poe (Joshua's fiance, just recently become so this past weekend) went around putting up the 25 or so posters that I had provided. Matt have previously gotten them approved and stamped in Student Services, so we were good to go. Hopefully, the students will really take notice and get online to donate! I would like to thank Matt, Joshua, and…

Discussion with First Tennessee President, Cardinal and Cream Article Photography

There were two main events of the day for the DfaD project. The first of which was a visit to the First Tennessee Bank, where my dad and I were able to speak with the president about the Dollar for a Drink project and a possible matching grant. The president (Mr. White I believe...) seemed very interested, but he is going to have to present it to his board about it before he can give a yes or no answer (he is also going to be working through a list of other non-profits that have requested assistance that the last president did not attend to as well, apparently.) Anyway, I am very hopeful here, and we will just wait and see how it works out!

The second event was the visit of one Beth Spain, who is a photographer for Union's newspaper, Cardinal and Cream. We were able to get some good pics I believe, and we will hopefully see some of them Thursday, the scheduled date of the next paper.

Also, the Jackson Sun article was pushed back yet again, and we are hopeful that it will appear…

BGR Endorsement Letter

I forgot to say yesterday that while we were at Union, Dad was able to have a talk with Mr. Palmer (Director of BGR). He and his family are here in the states for about a week, and while he was with Dad, Mr. Palmer gave him three copies of a letter of endorsement that he had written for Dollar for a Drink. Click here to download it. Thank you so much Mr. Palmer! :D I also had the chance to see him myself (along with his wife and daughter), and he had some very encouraging words to give me in regards to Dollar for a Drink.

I am not sure if I told you all this (I have a nasty habit of forgetting who I have told what), but Matt and Joshua are putting together an event night at Union sometime next week, and I was really hoping that Mr. Palmer was going to be able to come and give a small speech on BGR (when I found out that he was coming to Tennessee). However, due to the fact that he and his wife are staying in Nashville (his daughter goes to Union), and Nashville is three hours away,…

UU Promotion Table, Jackson Sun Interview

The days events in retrospect...

- After my OT class at Union I headed over to the cafeteria, outside of which Matt Elia and Joshua Hays had set up their promotion table for DfaD. They had a laptop set up with the Donation page loaded on screen, some of my posters, and a notebook for people to sign up for commitment and a UU DfaD e-news letter (they had to put their e-mail addresses).

I got there just as Matt was "changing the guard" with Joshua. I then joined Matt at the table and started my lunch (PB&J sandwich with pretzels and oreos for dessert! Yummy!) Matt's job was to give people more info on the project as well as spark their interest in it. Once I was done with lunch, I did some of that too. I think that overall we got a really good response and I believe that many of the students will be able to spread this to others. Matt did an excellent job with speaking to passers-by, and I am sure that Joshua was just as good. Thanks so very, very much you two! :D

Aaaannnd... PROJECT LAUNCH!!!

It's October 1st! And that means (you guessed it!) it's Dollar for a Drink's official launch date! What does that mean for the group? Well, it means that we are now out of the preparation stage and are attacking this thing for real. Sure, you could have donated several days ago, but the actual launch was originally scheduled for Oct. 1st, so we stuck with that.

Currently, the two main things that have actually kicked of with the start is the promotion at Union and the new Facebook Group (which I would encourage you to join). If there is anyone else out there promoting this project at your school, church, etc, then PLEASE CONTACT ME TO LET ME KNOW!

Thus far, there have been about $300 dollars raised! (Mind you, there are several larger donations from several individuals) But still, we are off to an excellent start! I am very excited to see where the Lord will take this!

Also, my dad told me that the DfaD article in the Jackson Sun will be on the front page!!! Wow.... Yikes... Yay! :D
