Well Update!!!

--- 3/23/09 ---

Dear Dollar for a Drink Donors,

It is my pleasure as the Director of the DfaD project to present to you a picture of the actual well which Dollar for a Drink funded last year!

While it may not look large, it is ministering to 6000 individuals in Sudan! Prior to this well's installation, the people of this village (the name of which cannot be identified here due to security reasons) had to walk 4 - 6 hours (one way) just to get to fresh water! Here is a picture of some of the village children:

Sadly, Mr. Palmer and Mr. Shepherd (from BGR) were not able to get into Sudan as planned due to the recent instability in the government of Sudan. They were planning on getting lots of picture and perhaps even video footage, as well as testimonies from the villagers. We were able to get these two photos however, and hopefully they will be able to go into Sudan sometime in the future. Please pray that this works out! When I get new media footage, I will be sure to post it up here on the website.

In response to finding out that DfaD is interested in raising more funds for future wells, the response in Sudan was: "We need all the help that we can get. We need people like yourself who will help us to quench the thirst of the needy; thus giving them hope."

Don't worry! We plan on doing more! : )

In addition, Mr. Shepherd had this to say to me in a recent e-mail: "On behalf of the needy people of Sudan, i thank-you for caring & rallying others to care with you to provide that drink of water."

I believe that this quote applies to everyone who made this project a reality and a success. I cannot thank you all enough for the support and encouragement you have had to offer all along the way. I hope that we have an even better fundraiser next time around!

On that note, let me remind everyone that we are still holding off on DfaD promotions at the moment. The plan is to fire back up this coming September and start with a new goal of two wells - $16,000 by Christmas. We are hoping to make this a yearly event. If anyone is interested in doing fundraisers for the next campaign, please contact me sometime in advance (we have plenty of time, but all the same). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me here.

Thank you all once again! I am looking forward to the what the future holds!

In Christ,

Joshua Guthrie, Director
Dollar for a Drink

Our Mission . . .

is to increase the availability of clean water in the most needy areas around the world, beginning with Sudan, Africa.

Our Vision . . .

is to improve the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of people by making clean water available for drinking and irrigation, thus reducing thirst, water-born diseases, and military conflict that stem from lack of adequate water resources.

Furthermore, it is our hope to get as many teenagers involved in this project as possible, showing that it doesn't matter your age, you can make a difference in the world!

Dollar for a Drink is a registered 501 (c)3 organization. Please contact us if you have any further questions.

Did you know . . .

1.1 billion people (approximately one in six people on earth)
lack access to a clean water supply.

Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a water-related disease.

Sudan is one of the countries with the highest number of people
with access to only contaminated water -
12.3 million

The lack of water in Darfur plays a part in worsening military conflict in the region as various groups compete for water resources.

Furthermore, did you know . . .

The average American uses 100 to 176 gallons
of water at home each day.

Pacific Institute estimates that total consumer expenditures
for bottled water are approximately
$100 billion per year.

Bottled water can cost as much as $10 per gallon
which is
twice the price of gasoline.

There is a great need for fresh water in Sudan Africa. We as Americans have a great wealth of water and material resources.  We need to ask, do we have the right to keep to ourselves resources we don't really need—resources that can greatly reduce the suffering of others?

To learn more about the condition in Sudan or the resources we as Americans are wasting, check out the resource section of the site.  To donate, please click here. If you would like to go an extra step and help promote the project, your help would be greatly appreciated.  Please see the promotion page on this website.

Thank you for your interest!  Let's change the world together!!
